Putting Life in Perspective

What does the Bible say about raining on the just and unjust?

That ye may be the children of your. Father which is in heaven: for he maketh. his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Matthew 5:45

I am sitting here thinking about the gun violence that has happened this week and last week.  It is scary, you know? In both cases it hits home. No, it wasn’t anyone I knew personally.  But the circumstances around it hit home.  The shooting in the Buffalo grocery store in a predominately African American community, hit home.  It makes you think, it could have been me.  A lot of the people that were killed were church people, friendly neighbors, helpers in the community, and just all around good people.  And they were gunned down simply because of the color of their skin. It just makes me think, it could have been me.  I wasn’t in Buffalo, but what if someone tries this same thing in my community of mostly minorities? Has God removed his hedge of protection from His people?

Also the second shooting this week in Texas where the innocent children were gunned down, has me on edge.  It has my husband on edge. My son is in TK and going to Kindergarten next year.  We have and are contemplating home schooling. I know my son needs to socialize with other children his age, but the increase in violence has my guard up. I pray for the parents that have lost their children.  My heart goes out to them. It makes me pray fervently for my community and the children in it. I pray that this doesn’t happen again.  I pray that the laws are changed regarding gun purchases and that there is a mental health and a rigorous application process.  I pray that the government quit bickering over trivial things and pass laws that will help and not hurt. I pray that the government would realize that all lives matter, not just the potential ones in the wombs of women. We need to focus on the life that is here, preserve them, and help them.

If we are concerned with women aborting their fetuses, then let’s be concerned about the children at school, the elderly at the grocery store, and young men being stopped by police. Let’s really be concerned about all the lives and not just the woman who has found herself pregnant whatever the circumstance surrounding it.

I am not saying I agree with abortion, because I don’t. I just don’t agree with forcing my opinions and beliefs on other people. I choose to tell people about the love of God, in hopes of them choosing to give their lives to Jesus. I am just saying, let it make sense……..

I said all that to say this……………… God rains on the just as well as the unjust.  It hurts when innocent people die, due to violence. We as His people are not exempt from the surrounding circumstances. It should bring us closer to God and on our knees. God has not forsaken us. He has not removed His hedge of protection from us. When He calls us home, it is our time no matter what the situation. He wants us to draw near to Him. Let us call out to Him in our need and time of sorrow. He is always there for us.

Let’s take a walk with Jesus. I love you.
